 The Minocqua area has always been a gem in my mind. Ever since I was a child, when someone would say they were going up north, I had visions of  cabins on Lake Kawaguesaga. Muskie fishing was my dads game as I was just a small boy, and that was too rough for me. I would stay back with my mother at the cabin and catch blue gills and perch from the dock. If my memory searves me correctly, it never rained a single time we were there. I can still hear the loons calling out when the sun was going down, and see the diamond waves glisten as the sun came up in my minds eye. Every time we went to Minocqua, my parents would be sure that they would go to town at least once without us kids and visit there favorite bar. It was called the Thirsty Whale. At that age I actually thought there were sharks and whales in the depths at the end of the dock, but thats part of the mystique of being in Minocqua. Its so quiet, that its almost frightening to some who are used to the hussle and bussle of big city living. Now when I go to Minocqua to remove bats from a cabin or home, I make sure to get dinner at S.A. Loons. They have the best seafood I’ve had anywhere in northern Wisconsin, and I wouldnt pass it up at any cost. The price is also amazingly affoardable, and the people there are so nice its hard to say good bye. The Lake of the Torches Casino is another place where I like to visit. I am not much of a gambeler, but I spend a little after I have had my fill at the buffet. Smoked salmon, ham, turkry and prime rib are all my favorites, but the pastery bar is always there to finish me off with pie and ice cream! How I leave any of these places without a wheelboro is beyond me, because it tastes so good I could hurt myself eating!

 Bat houses are for the most part consructed nicely, and if a bat knew it was there would surely bring his whole colony to move in. But I see so many un ocupied bat houses, that I dont have alot of faith in putting them up.  Ok, Now that that is all over, lets talk about bats and bat houses! Having bats in a bat house near your own home is a riskey move! When a maternal colony of bats outgrows there own home, they may look for someplace roomier, like your attic! Make sure the home is well sealed before attempting to get bats calling your yard home.

 Why would a bat want to go into a funny shaped box, just because it was built for them? It may acomandate there needs for shelter but the fact is that they dont know its there. Lets find out why.

A bat gets into the attic of a home because of the differant smelling air coming out from cracks and voids left in the structure of the building.  Bats have predators trying to eat them, like cats, owls, snakes. They live a long time, 20-30 years is pretty normal, and with age comes wisdom(unless you ask my teenage son) A bat wont put themselves in a dangerous place. So it must be high up. 15-20 ft.  And the post should be solid. A wobbely weak post will whip in the wind, and the bats wont like that.

And what I am about to write is kinda gross, but it works. You need to get some bat guano and mix it with glyserine. You need to make a paste out of it and rub the wood down with it so it stinks. This is how animals find each other in there world, and you just sent the message out to the entire bat world! Good luck with installing your bat house!
